Born in Cáceres in 1989, Jorge de la Cruz comes from a long tradition of wood artisan family. Since he was young, he was interested by this material and its diverse applications. When he was eighteen, he moved to Madrid to study Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
In 2009, he begun the Product Design degree at Istituto Europeo di Design at the city of Madrid, where he begun to grow as designer and to experiment with different materials and processes. Two years later, he was awarded at Progetto Millennio, the international glass design competition by Italian brand Bruni Glass, with his 540º project.
During summer 2011, he took an internship at In Spirit Design where he participated in different bottles, packaging and sport footwear works.
In 2012, one of his projects was exhibited during Salone del Mobile di Milano, at Salone Satellite. Then, in October 2012, he participated in Dutch Design Week with his project Between Centers.
His project ‘Podium’ is produced by the French design brand La Chance and it was shown in Milan at Madtastic exhibition and La Chance’s space in Brera where they presented their 2013 collection.
His work has been featured in various international magazines such as Yatzer, Neo2, Dezeen, Designboom, Casa Vogue and Wanted magazine.
Also, he has participated in different workshops like “Materia trascendente” with Ciszak Dalmas or “Harvest to Create” with Nacho Carbonell at Domaine de Boisbuchet organized by Vitra Design Museum and Centre Georges Pompidou.
